December & January Artists -
Angela Praisner & Lisa Ryan |
A Sense of Place
Angela Praisner captures the essence of time & place in her travels through a lens.
The obvious landscape is powerful enough to freeze in time, but in some instances, there is a desire to become more intimate with the place and search for spaces that go unnoticed. All different, but all with one commonality.... capturing “a sense of place”.
Lisa Ryan captures “A Sense of Place” by incorporating location, with state of mind and time (past and present). The locations are some of her favorite places, highlighting areas with historic significance. The medium is black and white photography combined with pen and ink drawing. The transition from photograph to drawing is to demonstrate the transition of time in the specific place.

Both artists are veteran high school art teachers in Montgomery County Public Schools.
10% of the proceeds from this exhibit will be donated to the Marilyn J. Praisner Scholarship fund at Montgomery College. This scholarship isawarded to a full- or part-time female student who demonstrates financial need and is either returning to school or is the first woman in her family to go to college. |

November Artists -
Deborah Richardson, Rebecca Jackson, Glenn Souders, and Peter Plant |
Battlefield Reflections
Having visited some of the most important Civil War battlefields in our nation, ones which happen to be right in our area. At places such as Antietam, Gettysburg, and Monocacy National Battlefield, these artists captured the beauty, and tragedy, reflected in the current landscapes at these historic sites.
The four artists are experienced in the art of painting outdoors, called painting en plein air. Deborah, Rebecca, and Glenn work in oils, while Peter specializes in acrylic paintings. Most of the work on view in Battlefield Reflections was painted on site, though artists sometimes finish plein air work in their studios. Richardson, Jackson, Souders, and Plant have painted both together and separately, beginning in March 2008 at Monocacy National Battlefield, located south of the FSK Mall right here in Frederick.
This past June 2009 as part of a larger group at the Gettysburg Fringe Festival, the four artists painted scenes from that famous battlefield. Later this past summer, they captured some of the scenery at Antietam National Battlefield, including the picturesque landscape at Burnside Bridge.
Deborah, Rebecca, Glenn and Peter are delighted to share their reflections on the landscapes at some of our nation’s most historic areas with the public at Frederick Cellars in November 2009.

Seaside Days of Yesteryear, by Jeanne McDermott
August 2009
Jeanne McDermott has been visiting Ocean City,Md and surrounding beaches since a young child and can think of nothing better in the world than to be by the sea.
She enjoys painting seaside scenes of families frolicking in the sand and uses a combination of acrylics, pen and ink and watercolors. By incorporating her love for nostalgia and history, the people in her work are clothed in the vintage bathing suits common through the 1920-50's.
She hopes her bright colors will cheer up and delight the viewers and send them back to the sea in their imaginations and memories.
Jeanne is a local Frederick artist who lives with her husband and little boy in downtown Frederick.

Craig Leonardi
Leonardi's abstractions are closely cropped renderings,
often of familiar but mundane objects, and more conceptual
than expressive. Leonardi's acrylic renderings, mounted
on non-traditional sculptural framing devices, focus on
the textures of industrial growth and decay - from concrete
and steel to rusty scrap metal and waste disposal units. |
